Grey

in four short letters
and the silence between your breath
i heard a love story
it was familiar on your tongue
called often
and for that i envied her like
no other

the way it rolled off your tongue
like the tide rushing unto shore
put my previous desires to shame

i wanted her name
and the memories strung from it
the ones that played soft undertones
in your voice
and curled your lips into coy
smiles

and though the word hangs dry
nearly retired from your mouth
reminiscence and love intertwine
and entangle their way through
the greys in your eyes
i envy her still
though that i’d never tell
